NEWS
The big news of the week relates to the publication of Dorian's Quest in ebook format. You can buy the ebook for only $1.99 - choose from a number of formats at Smashwords.com. Thanks to @keikomushi who mentioned Smashwords to me. A print version is forthcoming and I will post an announcement once it becomes available for purchase. If you hadn't been following Dorian's Quest when it was published as a web-serialized novella, you can still learn about it before buying by snagging a Free 5 chapter preview (PDF format) from the new Downloads section of this site.
Encouraging Reviews & Write-ups Received
I feel I must point you to Clayton C. Bye's forthright and very heartening review of Fog Island Flowers at the Deepening World of Fiction.
Fog Island Flowers was the very first work of fiction into which I ever invested any real effort. Recently, I tweeted that every time I re-read this novel, I'm alternatively joyful and horrified. Completed over six years ago after many stops and restarts, I'd like to think that I've achieved some growth as a writer since that time. Day by day, I feel like I'm inching ever closer to that unnameable goal - thanks in large part to the encouraging and helpful feedback I've received and interacting with so many interesting people - both fellow writers and readers alike.
DISCOVERIES
Smashwords tops the list this week. Smashwords is a self-publishing platform and online bookstore for independent ebook authors, publishers and readers. This service is a godsend for writers who want to offer their works in multiple ebook formats.
I visited The Creative Penn blog after realizing how much I was favoring and re-tweeting @thecreativepenn's tweets on a daily basis. Joanna Penn is a wealth of great information of use to writers, be it the "indie" types like myself or someone seeking to get published in the traditional manner.
GOOD READS
Online Fiction:
Jeremy C. Shipp - I can't pick just one story. Just go tumbling down the rabbit hole HERE and you'll see why I love his writing.
Scary Mary by S.A. Hunter - Meet Mary; she's a smart-mouthed high school girl who can hear ghosts. I'm only on Chapter Two but I'm having a blast reading this story.
In Print:
I'm currently reading the very intriguing tale of The Sorcerer's Key by C.C. Bye.
- A dark sorcerer from Eden battles Jack Lightfoot for a talisman that will give him unrestricted access to Earth and her technology.
