If you’ve been paying attention, you already know that there’s been a lot of buzz lately about Google’s latest endeavor, Google Wave. Google Wave is an online tool for real-time communication and collaboration. A wave can be both a conversation and a document where people can discuss and work together using richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more.

This is a screencap of how my Google Wave page currently appears.

This is a screencap of how my Google Wave page currently appears.

Members such as Made in DNA and Jim Hanas are already forging ahead and exploring all the various possibilities of Fiction Waves. If you already have a Google Wave account and would like to see how it’s all panning out or even add your own two cents – do check it all out.

One of the active discussion on Google Wave is “Wave and Narrative” – if you’re a writer with access to Google Wave, come and join the discussion.  Another good wave is the the “Fiction Wave Directory Discussion” – these are both discussions that are open to the public, so you should be able to jump right in.

I’m not into Roleplay or RPG’s but I’ve been seeing some conversations about how Google Wave is already being used for those. Considering its versatility – it might turn out to be a very useful and fun platform for Closed or Public RP Games, etc.

Google Wave itself, is currently just taking its baby steps. Because of this, memberships are available by Invitation Only. Invites are given out by existing members but seem to be issued to them sparingly.

If you’re on twitter, you can follow the trends by checking out the #googlewave hashtag results.

Feel free to Add me as a contact (mikodragonfly@googlewave.com) if you’d also like more information about on-going Writing related topics.

  • Living in LaLa land at the moment, I had heard of this but didn't know it had gone live, as it were. I'll have to go take a look-see. And, like yourself and Ms. Gadfly, I think this could be a great tool for writers and critique groups alike.
  • Alex, I sent you one :)
  • Aw, thank you kindly, Milady T! :)
  • Ahem. MR. Gadfly. :P
  • As a writer & an avid RPG gamer, I'm really interested in using Google Wave...but haven't had much luck tracking down an invite yet. I can see it being really useful as a way to offer critique workshops in an online format.
  • Gabriel, if you're still looking for an invite, I have 1 for you.
  • Certainly! The same e-mail address as the one used for this comment, please. And thank you very much.
  • Ha. Actually, scratch that. I just got an invite from someone. Thank you anyway :)
  • Eh, can I have one too. *blushes*
